A family of three (two adults and their teenage daughter) planned to take a one-week road trip to Slovenia to explore its most iconic places.
The call
Stanislas contacted us at the agreed time − we had reserved a time slot on the website − and asked us several relevant questions about our needs and interests. In about 30 minutes, we created together our bespoke holiday to Slovenia.
We explained that we wanted to spend a week in Slovenia. Of course, we realised that just a week is not a lot for the whole country, but the idea was to visit its most iconic places during this journey. We would need to rent a car to get around.
Concerning accommodation, we explained that we wanted to stay in small hotels and guest houses.
Stanislas took note of all our preferences. He suggested that we visit the western part of the country, including the capital, the Julian mountains with their famous lakes, visit a cave, go for an exciting experience of bear watching and spend a day on the Adriatic coast. It sounded like a plan for us!
The reservation
Stanislas emailed us a detailed description of our tailor-made holidays and a quotation the following week. It included all the elements we discussed and agreed upon during our call. He also sent us useful advice for purchasing our flight tickets.
As a result, we approved and signed the quotation electronically and paid a deposit. As soon as we booked our air tickets, we forwarded our flight details to Stanislas so that he could arrange a smooth car pick-up at the airport. We were looking forward to our holidays in Slovenia!
The preparations
Two weeks before departure, we received a comprehensive travel book setting out the complete itinerary by email. It also included many other things, such as travel advice and recommendations for restaurants and local cuisine.
Thanks to a specific reference number sent by Velstana, it was also available online via a link and on a handy free app − that can even be used in offline mode − available for iOS and Android devices.

1
Arrival in Slovenia
We landed at the airport of Ljubljana in the afternoon, upon arrival a driver greeted us and brought us to our beautiful and cosy hotel located at the very heart of the capital.
After the check-in, we decided to have a first stroll in the old town of Ljubljana. We fell in love with this place immediately!
For dinner, we chose one of the restaurants recommended by Velstana. The dishes were delicious and the atmosphere of the restaurant was “casual chic”. Read moreHide

Exploring Ljubljana
We dedicated the whole day to the self-visit of Ljubljana. We found plenty of advice in our travel book.
We wandered around the narrow picturesque streets, admired historic buildings, visited Ljubljana castle learned a lot about the town’s history there, and, of course, found the famous dragons. Our teenage daughter especially liked the graffiti at Metelkova Mesto.

Fairytale Bled
After breakfast, we picked up the hired car and headed toward the Julian Alps and the famous Bled Lake. On our way, we stopped by the picturesque towns of Skofja Loka and Radovljica.
The Bled Lake turned out to be even more beautiful than we imagined it! A castle perched high on the hill, a postcard view little island in the middle, reflection of the sky and the surrounding mountains in the water. This place just could not be more perfect.
In the afternoon, after we checked into a beautiful little hotel located very close to the lake, we did a hike to the viewpoint to enjoy the panorama from the heights. We also took a traditional boat pletna to reach the island.

Stunning nature
In the morning we went to explore the amazing Vintgar Gorge. We decided to arrive there early to avoid the crowd. It turned out to be one of the most magical places in Slovenia, with its waterfalls, picturesque boardwalks, and a crystal clear Radovna river below your footsteps.
The second part of the day we spent at Bohinj Lake, the largest permanent lake in Slovenia that offers scenic views and many opportunities for hiking.
In the evening we came back to Bled Lake and had dinner in one of the recommended restaurants. For the dessert, we took a traditional local cream cake. Yummy!

The most amazing experiences
We woke up early, had a delicious homemade breakfast, and continued our way to the South of the country, more precisely to Postojna.
That day we had a lot of adventure and fun! Our daughter was in the seventh heaven, but to be honest, we also enjoyed that day a lot.
First, we visited the impregnable mediaeval castle cut down in a rock. Then we continued with the famous Postojna cave. Such an amazing experience! You start with a one-of-a-kind ride on an underground train and then you find yourself in another world, it feels like being a character in Jules Verne’s book!
In the evening, we had another exciting experience organised for us by Velstana. Brown bear watching! We met with the guide at around 6 p.m. and he drove us with his full-wheel car to the forest, where we got ourselves comfortable and prepared to wait for the bear. We were lucky the bear appeared quite fast. Moreover, we encountered other animals. And our guide told us a lot of interesting facts.Read moreHide

Seaside pleasures
In the morning we left Postojna and drove to the Adriatic Sea. The first stop on our way was Koper, the main city of the region. The place is often overlooked by tourists but it is definitely worth a stop! Koper has a long history and there are plenty of beautiful sites hidden in its charming Old Town.
After Koper, we continued to the famous and beautiful Piran, where we spent the rest of the day and the night. We strolled the narrow picturesque streets, admired scenic panorama from the viewpoints, and enjoyed delicious food in local restaurants. A perfect ending to our Slovenian journey!Read moreHide
